Samsung announced during their Unpacked event on Wednesday, 09. 02. 2022, its next-generation flagship Galaxy S smartphones: the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus and the Galaxy S22 Ultra along with the Galaxy Tab S8 series of tablets. The event didn’t reveal many surprises if you’ve been keeping up with the rumours. Samsung’s Galaxy Note smartphone line appears to be discontinued but lives on in the Note-like Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Let’s see everything Samsung announced in their latest hour-long event.
Galaxy S22 lineup
The 6.1-inch Galaxy S22 is the smallest of the lineup, and the massive 6.8-inch Galaxy S22 Ultra is as previously mentioned the Note-like model. The Galaxy S22+ comes with a 6.6-inch display. The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus have triple-camera systems with a 50-MP wide-angle camera and a 12-MP ultra-wide camera with a 120-degree field of view. There’s only one telephoto lens on both the Galaxy S22 and S22+, both with a maximum of 3x optical zoom.
The highlight of the lineup is the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which adopted many Galaxy Note features. The camera improvements in this model are a clear lens that cuts down on glare and lens flare and 45W charging. The 6.8-inch S22 Ultra features a slim, light frame, crisp angles and an expansive screen and it comes with the built-in iconic stylus that will resonate with people looking to get the most productivity out of the device. The S Pen now features a quicker response time, the ability to save notes directly into Microsoft Office documents or Outlook emails, it is supposedly one millisecond faster than its predecessor and it supports Air Actions.
The phones will be available in these colours: the S22 and S22+ in Phantom White, Phantom Black, Green and Pink Gold. In addition to those, Samsung will release four eStore exclusive colours – Violet, Light Blue, Grey and Cream. The S22 Ultra will be available in Phantom White, Phantom Black, Green and the new Burgundy. In addition to those, Samsung will release three eStore exclusive colours – Red, Light Blue and Grey.
The new Galaxy S22 lineup will go on sale and be available to purchase in retail from March 4, 2022.
It is also worth mentioning that Samsung has expanded its sustainability efforts for the line by repurposing used fishing nets, moving to 100% recycled paper packaging and increasing the number of supported generations that will receive operating system updates to four.
Galaxy Tab S8 lineup
Samsung showed off its three new tablets: the Galaxy Tab S8, the S8+ and the S8 Ultra. The new Tabs run on the same 4nm processor as the Galaxy devices and are also compatible with the S Pen. The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra with its 14.6 inches is huge when compared to the 12.4-inch Galaxy Tab S8+ and 11-inch Galaxy Tab S8. The Galaxy Tab S8+ and S8 come in graphite, silver and pink gold, the S8 Ultra is available in graphite only.
It seems that Samsung is giving users more control over their personal data. The Galaxy S22 lineup uses the company’s proprietary security platform that isolates sensitive data such as passwords, biometrics or Blockchain keys from the phone’s main operating system. The privacy dashboard feature will showcase apps that are accessing data.
