The Apple Watch 7 is now official and here is everything you need to know about it.
Almost a year after its predecessor, the Apple Watch Series 6, was launched, we’ve got our first official look at the Apple Watch Series 7 with a handful of useful upgrades. It comes in two new screen sizes featuring a flatter display with slimmer bezels, and also features faster charging and IP6X dust resistance in addition to the existing WR50 waterproofing. The new Apple smartwatch is still compatible with existing Apple Watch bands and straps.
When Will the Apple Watch Series 7 Be Released?
The Apple Watch 7 was officially announced at Apple’s “California Streaming” event held on Tuesday, September 14 2021. Though it’s usually expected that the release date or pre-order date should be confirmed on the same day, that wasn’t the case. Instead, Apple simply announced that the new Apple Watch Series 7 would be available later this year with no specific date.
That means you should expect the new smartwatch any time before the end of November 2021. One certain thing is there will be a pre-order on the Apple store a week or two before the device goes on public sale. Reports have it that Apple is struggling with some production problems for the new Apple Watch Series 7, which is possibly responsible for the delay. However, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated the issues have been resolved, but it’s clear these issues affected production.
New Screen Sizes
The new Apple smartwatch will be available in two 448×368 pixel screen sizes – 41mm and 45mm, up from 40mm and 44mm screen sizes on the Apple Watch Series 6. While this looks like a minor change, it offers about 20% extra screen area compared to its predecessor, bringing a big difference to the usability of the device and enough space for a full keyboard.
When the Apple Watch Series 7 will be released, it’ll be running on WatchOS 8. This OS focuses on photos and messaging, health, sleep, keeping fit and mindfulness. WatchOS 8 also offers better support for smart home kits. The included Assistive Touch feature allows users to control the smartwatch using gestures. Apple will also include the iPhone’s Portrait Photos mode into the Apple watch to allow better display of images.
The new Apple Watch Series 7 would feature 1GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. However, there is no card slot. The large internal storage is expected to handle all users’ data.
The starting price for the Apple Watch Series 7 is AU$599, which is exactly the same as its predecessor. Generally, there hasn’t been any significant changes in the prices of the Apple Watch series – the prices have been reasonably steady over the past three years except last year where there was a slight drop in price in the UK market. Here are the starting prices of the Apple Watch Series from launch:
- Apple Watch Series 3 – from AU$299
