What was Announced at Apple’s California Streaming Event

After some delays with the Apple event and product launches last year it seems one of the mobile tech giants is now back on track. The second Tuesday in September is now again reserved for new Apple products announcements and this one brought a range of new iPhones, iPads and Apple Watch.

iPhone 13

The line-up once again includes four models; the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. It is rumoured this may be the final season for the mini model but only time will tell.
The design is quite similar to their predecessor’s with a fairly straight body. The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini now have the cameras set up diagonally, however, the selfie camera notch is smaller by around 20%.

The new iPhones come with an A15 bionic chip which Apple claims is 50% faster than any of their competitors which is extremely difficult to verify due to different speeds of operating systems and a bunch of other elements that influence the phones’ speed. The more expensive two models have one more graphic core (five instead of four). The new models are equipped with a new Super Retina XDR display which is 28% brighter than the 12, the iPhone 13 Pro delivers 120Hz ProMotion displays and an all-new camera system that includes a 6-element, ultra-wide lens and 3x optical zoom.

There is also an improvement in the battery life. The iPhone 13 mini should provide 1.5 hours of longer battery life, the iPhone 13 promises 2.5 hours of extra endurance. The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max also promise 1.5 hours and 2.5 hours of extra battery life.

Pre-orders begin at 10 pm AEST on Friday, September 17 and it will then go on sale from Friday, September 24.

iPad (9th Generation)

The new iPad comes with an A13 bionic chip which boosts performance by 20%. It has a 12MP Ultra Wide front camera that adopts the Center Stage feature and better low-light photography and it features a new 10.2-inch retina display.

The iPad (9th Gen) starts at $499 for Wi-Fi models and $699 for Wi-Fi + Cellular.

Apple Pencil, Smart Cover and Smart Keyboard are also compatible and are available for purchase separately.

Pre-orders began on September 15 and will be available in stores starting September 24.

iPad mini 6

The outside doesn’t look much different from the previous model but the software got some pretty impressive updates. It features the new A15 Bionic chip with a 6-core CPU, a 5-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine making it up to 80% faster than the previous generation. It’s got 5G compatibility, supports Apple Pencil, a very welcomed USB-C port and a new 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display.

The iPad Mini starts at $749 for Wi-Fi and $979 for Wi-Fi + Cellular. Pre-orders are live and available in stores on September 24.

Apple Watch Series 7

The new watch isn’t expected to arrive until later in the Spring. It will have a bigger, Always-On Retina display that is 70% brighter, thinner display borders and faster charging (33% faster charging). They will be available in two larger sizes this year (41mm and 45mm) and feature a new S7 chip.
One of the coolest new features is that the Series 7 holds an IP6X rating, which means it should be dust-tight. Falling in the sand, or dirt should be no problem for the Apple Watch Series 7.

The watches come in the aluminium finish in five colours this year: midnight, starlight, green, blue and product red.

Apple has not yet announced the pricing and release date of the Apple Watch Series 7 for Australia.

Hopefully, we will get announcements on new MacBooks and AirPods soon as well, we heard they might be released before the end of the year. Stay tuned!
